A great benefit to having car insurance is that you can add roadside assistance to your policy. Roadside assistance can come in very handy. With roadside assistance, motorists do not have to worry when they are cruising along that some mechanical meltdown will leave them stranded. All they have to do is pick up a phone and dial their roadside assistance number and someone will soon be there to fix their flat tire, bring gas, tow the car, or give a battery jump. It is sort of like having Superman on speed dial.

Even some cars come with a convenient built-in button for roadside assistance. The person in the car simply presses the button and they are connected to a live operator who will either guide them out of trouble or send someone to help them. This type of service is usually aside from car insurance policies. However, some people feel very uncomfortable that they can be located through such onboard assistance companies by satellite. They feel there are privacy issues with this.

Many of these companies offer additional benefits to go along with their roadside assistance programs, such as discounts to hotels and special offers to members. Yet, some people prefer to keep things simple. If they can get all of their services in one place, from one company, then they would rather do it that way. After all, having a separate roadside assistance program means a separate bill; that has to be paid.

While there are some car insurance companies that do not have this option, many of them offer roadside assistance services to their car insurance policy holders. Often this service is offered if the person with the policy has Collision coverage. Yet again, the benefit is that the best insurance policy with roadside assistance is a ‘one stop shop’. Since Collision coverage is often required on a vehicle that is still being paid for, getting this type of roadside assistance may prove to be more affordable and convenient.
